#1. Tells us that God is 'Only One God' we are forbidden to make him 'one of many gods.'
#2. Tells us that God as Spirit --we are forbidden from to make him into something corruptible
#3. Tells us that God is deity--he is the creator not creature--we are forbidden from "using God's name in the servise of unbelief and lying.
"The first guards God's unity, the second His spirituality, the third His deity or essence."
also this fact struck me:
"these injunctions were given to an already saved people to teach them how to walk in God's way"
Your thoughts?
I love what you saw in the 10 Commandments. I also love how God was so explicit in his directions for building the Arc and Tabernacle. I try and envision it in my head and do a good job for awhile but then it gets way beyond me. I am looking forward to seeing it. I was so impressed with the full script of His commandments. Sometimes I wonder if we still followed them if it would reduce crime and violence? Sometimes I wish I lived back then, but then I am also glad I live now. Life is what you make it as long as you have God with you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment--would you please give us your name?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous is Tacy. I thought I had it figured out to put in my name but it didn't work. Sorry
ReplyDeleteWhen you say "corruptible" do you mean subject to decay through rot and corrosion and the like? Or do you mean morally corruptible? The first makes since to me, but having physical form does not automatically make something morally corrupt.
ReplyDeletenot that I'm a theologian--and also the word "corruptible" came out of my commentary--but I think it means both. God is telling his people that he is incorruptible --both as something that can never decay (like all material things) and as a being who is completely righteous.
ReplyDeletealso, as fallen beings, we have the devilish capacity to take anything from the rest of God's perfect creation and corrupt it.
Tacy,
ReplyDeletemy commentary talked about how God must have shown Moses the tabernacle in some other way than just the description we have. A simple way to think of it is a very large elaborate tent inside of an outer ordinary looking tent.
also, remember that the people didn't even wait for Moses to get back with the rest of the law before they broke the commandments. I don't think they followed them then much more than we do today.
