Some Blogging Basics--I'm learning as we go

Reading--this is pretty easy--the latests posts are at the top--scroll down for earlier posts. Every post gets archived two ways (lists are on the left side of the page)
1. by month
2. by label (meaning topic). click on any title in archive to bring up that post.

Posting--this is a little trickier until you get the hang of it. At the bottom of each post you will see the word "comment" with a number in front of it (that's how many comments have already been posted). Here are the steps for posting your comments:
1. Click on "Comments" you will then see all of the comments already posted by others.
2. at the bottom of the comments you find "Post a comment" and a box in which to type your comment. Type whatever you want to in this box.
3. below the comment box you will see: "comment as [select a profile] this is where it gets slightly tricky until you conquer it. I think the easiest thing to do is to create a "Google Account"--all you need is an email address and a password--you can use your real first name as your user ID. If you try to post a comment and choose "Google profile" you will be led to a screen that helps you create the account and profile. You don't have to fill in any of the information except your email address, password, and user name.
4. Verification: the program asks you to type in a nonsense word--this keeps spammer from getting on our blog.
5. after you create the Google account--your name will appear in the "comment as" drop down list.

I know this all sounds very complicated--but once you work through it you'll find it not so tricky. Try it now--just as a test.

6. Also you can preview what you post--and make corrections before you post it for real.
7. Finally you can remove what you post if you want to.

Any questions?

Get Ready to Read Through the Bible in 2009

Something very exciting is going to start on January 1, 2009. A group of people from this congregation are going to start reading through the Bible. Some will be new to the Bible, and some will have been in and around it for many years. You are invited to join with them in this life changing activity. It will take about 15 minutes a day, six days per week. You’ll start with Genesis and end with Revelation. We will do this together following a blended reading plan. A display in the Narthex has everything you need to get started:

  • A calendar showing you the big picture roadmap for the whole year.

  • The reading plan for the first three months

  • Outline charts for each of the books that we will be reading during January, February and March.

  • Some information on how to read the Bible

  • Some helpful and simple guides to the major players in the first 5 books of the Bible.

All you need is a Bible that you find easy to read. If you don’t have one, or are looking for a fresh way to see the scriptures, you might what to check out the new International Bible Society’s “The Books of the Bible” It’s only $9.00 and is available, on-line, at http://www.thebooksofthebible.info/ Is this is something that you’ve been waiting for the right time to do?—please join with us now.
